Since debuting our line of Subs, one of the more common questions we receive at NTH is “are you going to make a larger version of the 40mm subs?” We listened, and after more than a year of deliberation and designing, we are proud to introduce our largest models yet, theSwiftsure and the Thresher.

These larger, 44mm subs will both be available next month (September 2020), most with a date or no-date option. We developed 4 styles of the Swiftsure and 3 of the Thresher, including fully DLC cases for both. You can view the full collectionhere.

As mentioned in ourlast post on the 2K1s, these larger 2K1 subs, like all NTH designs, are vintage-inspired. We looked to the case design of the iconic COMEX Submariners and Sea-Dwellers of the late ‘60s - early ‘70s to influence our own take on a deep-depth dive watch, then added some more modern twists for the dials and hands. Like the watches which inspired them, the 2K1’s case includes a helium escape valve, allowing them to function at depths up to (or down to) 61ATM (610m/2001ft).

The 3-6-9 big-number dial of the Swiftsure is influenced by vintage “Explorer” dial Submariners, but features larger, bolder, applied indices with a more modern font, similar to the modern Explorer. The Thresher is a modern homage to the Submariners issued to French military divers, but with elongated and applied indices set into a notched and beveled rehaut. The 2K1’s handsets were chosen to complement the dial pattern - bold for the Swiftsure, sleek for the Thresher.

Both the Swiftsure and the Thresher share the same oversized, lumed crown, with pointed crown-guards, and no-nonsense case back with minimal decoration.

While these watches were inspired by watches from the past, they are truly modern designs. All 2K1’s feature double-domed anti-reflective sapphire crystals, applied markers, a beveled minute track, a fully articulated 3-link bracelet, and a 120-click unidirectional DLC/PVD hardened steel bezel - lumed of course.

As with all NTH designs, ergonomics and wearability were among the design mandates. Despite its extreme pressure resistance, the 2K1’s case is a remarkably thin 13mm, with chamfered sides and downward-curved lugs give the case a streamlined, wrist-hugging shape.

We chose to use the tried and true reliable Miyota cal. 9015 automatic movement for the with-date versions and the 90S5 in our no-date versions (9039 on blue Swiftsure).

We’re excited to offer these new models for sale next month, and we would like to thank all of our NTH fans for your continued support and enthusiasm. Be sure tocontact your closest NTH retail partner to express your interest in the 2K1’s and request to join their waitlist.
